Norilsk Nickel profits up 40 percent

Russian mining and metallurgy major Norilsk Nickel in 2007 had a net profit of 170.2 billion RUB (4,6 billion EUR).

The profits are up 40 percent from 2006, Vedomosti reports. Norilsk Nickel has core activities in the Taimyr peninsula and in the Kola Peninsula within production of nickel, cupper, palladium, as well as several other minerals. Speculations have the last months swirled around the company after both Rusal and Gazmetall have expressed their interest in a merger with the nickel producer
