Northern Fleet Commander visits Norway
Commander of Russia’s Northern Fleet Vice Admiral Nikolay Maksimov is visiting Norway on invitation from Commander of the Norwegian National Joint Headquarters Lieutenant General Bernt Brovold.
Together the high ranking military leaders will visit the Norwegian navy’s main base Haakonsvern and the National Joint Headquarters in Reitan, the Russian Armed Forces’ web site reads.
In course of the three days long visit Admiral Maksimov will have talks with several Norwegian military officials, he will have a chance to take a closer look at Norwegian equipment and weapons and visit the The Joint Rescue Coordination Centre in Bodø.
On Wednesday BarentsObserver cited the news agency Vostok-Media, who claimed that Head of the Armed Forces in North-East Russia Vice Admiral Aleksandr Vitko has been appointed Commander of the Russian Northern Fleet. This information has not been repeated in any other Russian media and is therefore probably false.
