Norway detained third Russian vessel in one month
The Russian trawler ”Proyekt” was detained by the Norwegian coast guard vessel “Andenes” outside the coast of Northern Norway yesterday. This is the third Russian vessel to be detained by Norwegian authorities in one month.
The trawler was detained in Norwegian Economic Zone and escorted to the coast guard base in Sortland, FiskeribladetFiskaren writes.
According to Izvestiya, the vessel is suspected for illegal trawling in an area that is closed for trawling from October to March 20.
This is the third Russian vessel to be detained by Norwegian authorities in one month, and the fourth so far this year. In January, the trawler “Peter Petrov” was arrested for fishing inside the Norwegian economical zone without reporting its activities to the Norwegian authorities. The same was the reason for the arrest of the trawler “Pavel Batov” in March. Also in March, the cargo vessel “Mekhanik Tyulenev” was detained on suspicion of having collided with and sunk the fishing boat “Marina”. When the fishing boat was lifted from the sea bottom, it showed no signs of a collision with the Russian ship, which then was released.
