Norway invests in Barents young generations
Norway has approved a total of one million EUR to improve the conditions for youth and children at risk in the Barents Region.
Norway will use one million EUR in the period 2010-2012 to finance dissemination of knowledge-based methods to improve the conditions for youth and children at risk in the Barents Region, a press release from the International Barents Secretariat reads.
- The most important resource we have in the North is our up-growing generation. The main objective of this program is to improve life conditions for children and youth at risk in the Barents Region through increased efforts on knowledge exchange and competence sharing among the Barents partners, says Mr. Pål-Christian Bergstrøm, chair of the Barents Steering Committee of Youth and Children at Risk (CYAR). Mr. Bergstrøm represents the Norwegian Ministry of Children and Equality in the Barents Cooperation.
The project includes programs for parent/teacher and child social skill training, aggression replacement training, family groups and mediation between the criminal and the victim.
The Steering Committee of Youth and Children at Risk is a sub-structure of the Barents Joint Working Group on Health and Social Related Issues. In addition to CYAR, the group monitors HIV/AIDS and tuberculosis and coordinates projects preventing further spread of the infectious agents in the Barents Region.
