Norway’s illegal fishing

Cheating with quotas, illegal fishing and systematic fraud is common in the Norwegian fish industry, the Norwegian Association of Fish Buyers maintains.

The association which represents 50 buyers of fish products in northern Norway, argues that the irregularities are as common now as before. -While Norwegian authorities have been busy with international pirate fishing, they seem to have forgotten the illegal fishing along the Norwegian coast, head of the association, Mr. Steinar Eliassen says to newspaper Nordlys. He now calls on the Ministry of Fisheries to take action. -The illegal fishing is as extensive now as it was when the media put focus on the problem some years ago, he argues. Anyone who wants to cheat does it, he adds.
