Norwegian diplomat detained for drunk-driving
The Police Attaché at the Norwegian General Consulate in Murmansk has been detained by the police for drunk-driving, Murmansk TV reports. The report is partly confirmed by the General Consul.
Murmansk state television GTRK Murman reports that the Police Attache at the Norwegian General Consulate in Murmansk Geir Austad Johnsen has been detained by the police for driving under the influence of alcohol. According to the report, the attaché refused medical examination.
- We can confirm that Johnsen was stopped by Russian police on the evening of February 3, General Consul Jon Fredriksen says to BarentsObserver. – We take such matters seriously, but for the time being we are awaiting an official approach from Russian authorities, he adds.
The case will be handled according to normal practice both on Norwegian side and in relation to Russian authorities, Mr. Fredriksen says.
GTRK Murman reports that the diplomat already has left the country, but this is denied by Fredriksen: - Johnsen is still at work here in Murmansk, he says.
