Norwegians want to become spies

In an unprecedented move, the Norwegian secret services this week posted a recruitment add on the website of the armed forces. -The response from the public has been enormous, a defence spokesman confirms.

The secret services have long struggled to recruit new qualified personnel. Now, the service is taking on new methods in its search for manpower.

The recruitment add, posted at mil.no this week, invites qualified people to sign up for duty in the secret-most of all Norwegian services. The main task will be to provide Norwegian authorities with accurate information for the country’s foreign, security and defence policy, the add reads.

The response from the public has been far above the expected, newspaper Dagbladet reports.

-The response has been big, actually enormous, until the middle of the day. That is what I have been allowed to say, spokesman for the Norwegian Armed Force Petter Lindquist says to the newspaper. –Even the most conservative parts of the intelligence staff show a moderate enthusiasm, he adds.
