Oil spill in Kola Bay

Under transshipment of oil from a storage tanker in Kola Bay last Sunday approximately 10 tons of heavy fuel oil was spilled.

According to Murmansk Port Accident and Rescue Directorate, whose personnel is cleaning up after the accident, the oil spill keeps on the sea surface, and will have to be removed by hand with spades. The spill is only local, B-port reports.

According to experts on the scene, all security precautions were taken during the transshipment. Oil was not let through the booms, and there is no danger that the oil will reach the Barents Sea. The World Wildlife Foundation were ready to contribute with volunteers, but were being told that the Accident and Rescue Directorate had both enough personnel and equipment.

Interfax reports that approximately 10 tons of heavy fuel oil was spilled.
