Olympic medals to athletes from the Barents Russia

Athletes from the Russian part of the Barents region have so far received two medals – one gold and one bronze – in the Winter Olympics 2010 in Canada.

Anna Bogaly-Titovets was on the Russian team that took the gold medal at the women’s biathlon 4×6km relay on Tuesday. Anna started her sport career in Murmansk, but now lives in Novosibirsk. This is her second Olympic gold medal, since she also was part of the team that won the relay race in the Winter Olympics 2006 in Italy.

Alexey Petukhov won the bronze medal in the Mens’s Cross Country team sprint freestyle final on Monday. Petukhov lives in Murmansk.

Petukhov’s medal was the 6th Winter Olympic medal to be won by an athlete from Murmansk Oblast, the Murmansk regional government writes in a press release.
