Only 37 percent fit for army service
The Russian Defence Ministry considers that only 37 percent of Russian conscripts are fully fit for military service. Last fall, a total of 219,000 young Russian men underwent registration and medical checks by the military.
Information from the defence ministry shows that 37 percent of the conscripts were considered fully fit for service, while 1,1 percent were considered not-fit. Another 30,7 percent were considered fit with minor disadvantages, while 24 percent were only “partly fit”. The figures also show that as many as 10,000 of the conscripts had a weight problem. That problem might however not be a problem of over-weight, but rather of under-weight. A total of 800 of the young men were are reported to have problems with drug use. The defence ministry now also intends to start checking the conscripts for problems like HIV and hepatite, Kommersant.ru reports
