Orthodox Church steps up work in Murmansk prisons

All Russian Orthodox priests in Murmansk Oblast will from now on have yearly visits to prisons as part of their work, the church press service reports.

Archbishop Simon of Murmansk and Monchegorsk confirms to Murmanspas.ru that all his priests in the course of the year will visit prisons in the region. Church services will be a part of the visits. All the main prisons in the region already have small chapels. From now on, the number of church services will be increased, together with extended opportunities for confession and communion.
