Parliament gives economical guarantee for Chess Olympiad
The Norwegian Parliament Stortinget today agreed to grant 70 million NOK to the Chess Olympiad 2014 in the northern Norwegian town of Tromsø.
Last year the Norwegian Government gave a 70 million NOK guarantee to the event, which is supposed to attract some 3000 visitors, including 1400 chess players. The Chess Olympiad is the second largest sports event in the world measured in the number of participating countries, Nordlys.no writes.
Tromsø has to compete with the Varna Region in Bulgaria in the bid for the event. The decision on which city will get the Chess Olympiad 2014 will be taken during the Chess Olympiad 2010 in the Siberian city of Khanty-Mansiysk.
