“Political games around Nord Stream project”

Head of Gazprom Aleksey Miller says the problems surrounding the Nord Stream project are based on political intrigues in the neighbouring countries. The questions surfacing [in the project] have nothing to do with economy or ecology.

Influential interests in both the Baltic and the Nordic countries have expressed strong opposition against the Nord Stream project, saying that the 1200 pipeline could harm the environment of the Baltic Sea. In an interview with journal Itogi, Mr. Miller underlines that all environmental aspects in the project are being dealt carefully with and that the project inevitably will be implemented. -We should not forget that we have the international Law of the Sea Convention which regulates all disputed elements, he says, adding that none of the neighbouring countries will be able to stop Gazprom from building the pipeline. In the interview, Mr. Miller also says that Gazprom this year will boost investments to a total of 30 billion USD.
