Poor Finns face food crisis
The rapidly increasing food prices are beginning to make themselves felt among Finland’s vulnerable groups, Yle reports.
Representatives of the Laupeudentyö Foundation confirm that the lines are growing in free food distribution centres. The foundation now hands out free food to about 1300 people. Ms Ulla Pesola, who is in charge of managing the distribution of food aid from the EU through the Lutheran Church Resources Agency, says her numbers confirm what is happening in the bread lines. She says that her parishes are already requesting more food aid, and that orders for 2009 are already 13 percnet higher than for this year, Yle writes.
