Promising future for offshore wind power
The Norwegian Energy council believes that offshore wind power will turn out to be a massive export industry for Norway within 10 years.
Today’s technology makes running expenses of offshore wind power far higher than other renewable energy sources. But a report presented by the Norwegian energy council show that within a period of then years offshore wind power will become profitable. This will in turn make it a major Norwegian export industry, the council believes.
It costs between 2,5 and 3,5 million EUR per installed mega watt of offshore wind power. The energy council says in the rapport that Norway should have access to 40 terra watts of renewable energy sources, of which half comes from offshore wind power. The total investments to achieve this will be between 12 and 28 million EUR. If Norway reaches this amount of renewable energy sources the reduction of CO2 emissions will be up to 20 million ton annually.
