Putin approved as Russia's new prime minister

In his inauguration ceremony yesterday, Dmitrii Medvedev officially requested Vladimir Putin to become Russia’s new prime minister. Today, the State Duma approved Putin as the new head of cabinet

A total of 392 parliament members voted in favour of Vladimir Putin, while 56 voted against, RIA Novosti reports. Mr. Putin for the second time takes of the post as prime minister. He was also the government leader in 1999, before he in spring 2000 was elected president. With the appointment of Vladimir Putin, current PM Viktor Zubkov steps down from his post. He is believed to be a strong candidate for the post as new chariman of Gazprom’s Board of Directors, a post which for several years has been held by Dmitrii Medvedev.
