Railway for the Nenets AO

According to the Russian Transport Strategy for the period until 2030, a railway line is to connect the Nenets Autonomous Okrug with the outside world. Today, the resource-rich Nenets AO does not even have a road connection with the neighbouring regions. A total of 21,000 km of new railway is to be built in the period, Head of the Russian Railways, Vladimir Yakunin, said in the meeting. The railway investment will extend the national railway grid with as much as 24 percent. Three new federal subjects will in the period get access to the huge railway network, among them the Nenets Autonomous Okrug, Regnum reports with reference to newspaper Gudok.
