Record number of Russian tourists to Norway

In 2008, 55 000 Russian tourists visited Norway, an 18 percent increase from 2007.

In all, nearly 4,5 million tourists visited Norway in 2008. This is 1 percent more than in 2007, which means that the number of Russian tourists increased far more than tourists from other countries. According to the Norwegian Tourist Board Innovasjon Norge, the tourist boom from Russia is a result of successful advertising campaigns for the fjords, Oslo, Bergen and Northern Norway. This year Innovasjon Norge expects the number of Russian tourists to Norway to rise with another 20 percent. The organization will have campaigns in Russia to advertise for Finnmark County and fishing in Norway, travel.ru reports.
