Record result for Northern Norway’s largest bank

SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge, the leading bank in Northern Norway, has presented a result of more than one billion NOK for the first time in the bank’s history.

The preliminary result for 2009 shows a result of 1002 million NOK (app. 123.5 million EUR). This is twice as much as the year before, a press release from the bank reads.

- Northern Norway was less affected by the financial crisis than many had feared, says CEO Hans Olav Karde. - At the same time, Sparebank1 Nord Norge had for some time build up reserves in order to appear as a solid bank. When the crisis hit Norway in 2008, we did not have to sell any large parts of the bank’s stocks and shares.

SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge is the leading provider of financial products and services to the retail banking and corporate markets and to the public sector in the region. The Bank has 81 branches in Finnmark, Troms, Nordland and on Svalbard. SpareBank 1 Nord-Norge has its own representative office in Murmansk and is a shareholder in the Russian bank Tavrichesky OJSC, whose head office is located in St. Petersburg.
