Relations with Russia on Nordic agenda

The five Nordic prime ministers will have relations with Russia and the development of the Northern Dimension on the their agenda when they today meet in Helsinki for the 60th session in the Nordic Council.

Also the three Baltic prime ministers will take part in the Helsinki event, which in addition to Russia and the Northern Dimension, also will include focus on the financial situation in Iceland, climate issues and globalization trends, a press release from the Finnish Government reads.

The meeting in Helsinki comes one day before foreign minister assemble in Sankt Petersburg for a meeting on the Northern Dimension. Also there, East-West relations in the northernmost part of Europe will be on the agenda.

In an interview at Norden.org, current president of the Nordic Council, Erkki Tuomioja, highlights the important role of the Nordic countries in the development of the Northern Dimension. He says the meeting participants in Sankt Petersburg will approve the establishment of a new Northern Dimension Partnership on Transport and Logistics.
