Religious education for Northern Fleet officers
MWR officers from Russia’s Northern Fleet have started courses in religious education to be better able to give assistance to believing sailors.
Priests from the Murmansk and Monchegorsk Eparchy will be teaching navy officers responsible for MWR (morale, welfare and recreation) how to educate believing servicemen, the Northern Fleet’s web site reads.
Deputy Commander of the Northern Fleet Rear Admiral Anatoly Minakov and Abbot of the Murmansk church “Saviour on the Water” Archpriest Andrey Amelin will take part in the first class.
“Saviour on the Water” was built after the Kursk submarine disaster that claimed the lives of 118 seamen in the Barents Sea in 2000. The Kursk memorial is placed near the church.
