Report about pollution to the ministry
The Russian Ministry of Natural Resources has distributed an official note where it encourages people to report about cases of environmental violations. The reporters will be rewarded with nice sums of money.
The note reads that many businesses often conceal its environmental violations, and that this often leads to environmental damage. Therefore, the ministry says, people should be rewarded with the biggest possible sums in order to make them report about the violations and accidents. The one who report about the violations will get a part of the fines paid by the polluting company, newspaper Kommersant reports. The proposals are already included in a draft new Environmental Codex, currently under elaboration by the ministry. Deputy Minister Oleg Mitvol admits that it is the insufficient number of inspectors which has made the ministry take the initiative.
