Russia, EU discuss situation at border

EU Commissioner László Kovács says the growing trade between EU and Russia creates major practical problems on the borders. Today he went to Moscow to discuss cross-border facilitation with Russian authorities.

Mr. Kovács, who is responsible for customs affairs in the EU, says to newspaper Rossiiskaya Gazeta that the traffic jams on the border points are getting more and more problematic. On several occasions trucks have lined up in 40 km long queues along the border. In his meetings in Moscow, Mr. Kovács will discuss a joint strategy on how to resolve the border problem. According to Rg.ru, the commissioner will also invite Russia into a closer customs cooperation with the EU. Trade turnover between Russia and the EU has increased steadily over the last years and now has a value of about 200 billion EUR.
