Russia, France discuss new EU agreement
A new partnership agreement between the EU and Russia will be on top of the agenda when the foreign ministers from Russia and France today meet in Paris.
The former EU-Russia agreement, which expired 31 December 2007, has been prolonged for one year thus giving the parts the chance to compromise on a new deal. According to Russian foreign ministry spokesman, Mikhail Kamynin, the talks with France is vital as the country will take over the chair of the EU Council the second part of 2008. Mr. Kamynin also says that procedures on easier cross-border travel between the sides are on the agenda.
