Russia limits foreigners role in economy
The Russian State Duma yesterday adopted the law regulating foreigners access to 42 Russian strategic sectors.
Among the sectors categorized as strategic are several technology companies, the nuclear industry, space industry, aviation, defence, as well as geological exploration and mineral and hydrocarbon extraction. In addition come television, radio, the big newspapers and printing houses. According to the law, any foreign company seeking the acquisition of more than 50 percent of a strategic sector Russian enterprise will need the approval of the Russian government. If the foreign company in addition is partly owned by a foreign state, the government approval will be needed also in cases of 25 percent acquisitions.
