Russia might help Iceland out of crisis

Icelandic authorities have requested Russia about the provision of a 4 billion EUR credit. The Russian finance minister says he is positive.

According to RIA Novosti, the crisis-ridden Icelandic government has requested Russia to provide a 4 billion EUR credit in its bid to overcome the current financial crisis in the country. Russian Finance Minister Aleksey Kudrin today said to journalists that he is positive towards the request. -Iceland is known for its strict budget discipline and we positively assess the request, he said, RIA Novosti reports. Other sources in the Russian Finance Ministry say however that negotiations over the credit have not yet been started and that no Russian decision in the issue has yet been made.
