Russian gas production restored

The Russian petroleum industry in January increased gas production with 16 percent compared with results from the same period in 2009.

In a meeting with President Dmitry Medvedev yesterday, Vice PM Igor Sechin confirmed that Russian gas production in the first month of the year increased 16 percent compared with the same period last year. Oil production was up 2,8 percent, the government minister said, the president’s press service informs.

The increased gas production comes after a major decline in 2009. Then, production plummeted more than 12 percent and exports dropped more than ten percent. The country’s main gas producer Gazprom in 2009 cut production by 16,1 percent, newspaper Rossiiskaya Gazeta reports.
