Russian governors can dismiss mayors
Governors have the right to dismiss mayors, a decree from the Russian Government reads. Dmitry Dmitriyenko appreciates the new mandate as a form for support for regional leaders:
- This is relevant, especially in times of crisis. I believe this opportunity promotes manageability and draws up a rather clear vertical of power, Dmitriyenko said according to TV21.ru.
A two-thirds majority in the city legislature is required in order to remove a mayor from his post. Governor Dmitriyenko plans to meet all deputies in Murmansk Oblast this week to define what they should be expecting from their municipal leadership. As of today, there are no candidates for dismissal, Dmitriyenko says.
