Russian ministers out of state companies
In an effort to improve the country’s investment climate, Russia’s President Dmitry Medvedev has suggested all government ministers to leave their seats in some of the country’s biggest state firms.
Last week Medvedev suggested removing specialized government officials from boards of state companies which operate on competitive markets, RIA Novosti reports.
Ministers who are members of boards of companies belonging to industrial sectors of their supervision should be replaced by July 1, according to the statement. Shareholders should vote on replacements and elect non- governmental officials to chair the boards.
This includes Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin, who is board chairman of oil giant Rosneft, Deputy Prime Minister Igor Sechin, who is chairman of the Supervisory Council of Russia’s second largest bank VTB, Transport Minister Igor Levitin, who is board chairman of the country’s flagship airline Aeroflot and also chairs Moscow’s Sheremetyevo airport.
First Deputy Prime Minister Viktor Zubkov was also suggested to resign from the Russian Agricultural Bank.
The list of companies where ministers should be removed from their bord of directors can be found at Kremlin’s web site.
