Russian polar stations in need of upgrade
Russian Presidential Aide on Polar Affair, Artur Chilingarov, says Russian research stations in the Arctic and Antarctica are in major need of technical upgrades.
-I have been to both Russian and foreign stations, and the conclusion is unfortunately not to the advantage of the Russians, Mr. Chilingarov said, Rosbalt.ru reports with reference to Itar-Tass. -We should not only be present in the ice continent – we should be avant-garde of research, the Russian polar expert, currently on an expedition to the Antarctica, highlights. He also stresses that the financial crisis must not hamper Russian initiatives in polar areas.
