Russians go abroad for the Holidays

More than 17.000 people crossed Russia’s borders to Norway and Northern Finland during the ten days long New Year’s Holiday.

In the period from January 1th to 10th more than 17.000 people crossed the border at the border crossing points Salla and Lotta on the Russian-Finnish border and Borisoglebsk on the Russian-Norwegian border, newspaper Vecherny Murmansk reports.

Nearly 5000 cars crossed the borders in the same period.

As BarentsObserver reported, more than 109.000 persons crossed the Norwegian-Russian border in 2009. That is some 4,500 people more than in 2008 and the highest number since 2003.
