Shrinking population in Russia and Murmansk

The Russian population continues to shrink. Since the beginning of the year the number of people living in Russia has gone down with 50.600.

The last numbers from the Statistics service show that the Russian population totals 141.9 million. This is 0.04 percent less than by the beginning of the year, web site B-port.com reports.

In Murmansk Oblast the population has shrunk with 37.600 persons or 4.3 percent in course of the last five years. The number of people in the region now totals 842.500. The population had its peak in 1990 with 1.191.500 persons.

As BarentsObserver reported, the Russian Population Reference Bureau believes that the number of Russians in 2050 will total 110.1 million.
