Shtokman in focus at Arkhangelsk Forum of Oil and Gas Associations

ARKHANGELSK: Development of the Shtokman gas field was in centre of attention at the first ever Arkhangelsk International Forum of Oil and Gas Associations. There are no changes in the plans for the offshore part of the project, said Herve Madeo, Deputy CEO of Shtokman Development.

The Arkhangelsk based association of suppliers to the oil and gas industry Sozvezdiye had initiated this first international forum for oil and gas associations, which gathered some 270 persons from Russia, Norway, the Netherlands, France, Italy, Great Britain, Finland and other countries.

The two-day program of the event included plenary sessions, individual business meetings, a roundtable discussion and visiting of production sites in Severodvinsk and Arkhangelsk.

Status on the project for development of the Shtokman gas condensate field in the Barents Sea was, as expected, one of the main themes of the plenary sessions of the forum. According to Herve Madeo, Deputy CEO of Shtokman Development, the first phase of the project goes as planned. – There are no delays in the offshore part of the project, he said.

The forum’s aim was to attract the attention of international oil and gas companies and their general contractors to the Arkhangelsk region. According to Governor of Arkhangelsk Oblast Ilya Mikhailchuk the region has great potential when it comes to contribution in large oil and gas projects in the High North. He mentioned unused harbor capacities and large available land areas as some of the region’s advantages compared to its competitors.

The organizers - Sozvezdiye and Arkhangelsk regional government, are planning to make the Arkhangelsk International Forum of Oil and Gas Associations into an annual event.
