Shtokman project presented to the people of Teriberka

Together with the Peter Gaz company, Gazprom-subsidiary Sevmorneftegaz last week briefed the inhabitants of Teriberka on the development of the Shtokman project.

The speakers at the presentation stressed that the project will be conducted in line with international standards. At the same time they admitted that the project inevitably will affect environment and fishing in the area. According to Murman.ru, the locals were told that three platforms would be placed 560 km off the coast of the Kola Peninsula, that each of them will be connected to the sea bottom with four anchors. A sub-sea gas extracting complex will be placed at 340 m depths, from where three pipelines will be connected with Teriberka. A number of tests of the seabed in the area of the pipelines will be conducted by the vessels “Bavenit” and “Kimberlit”, both belonging to the company Arctic Marine Engineering Geological Expeditions (AMIGE). The village of Teriberka, the site chosen for the Shtokman gas processing facilities, has about 1400 inhabitants. Teriberka, a fishing village, is located on the coast of the Barents Sea about 100 km north-east of the city of Murmansk.
