Shtokman, Yamal to make Russia world-leading on LNG
The construction of LNG plants in the Shtokman project and in the Yamal Peninsula could make Russia world-leading on LNG production, Gazprom deputy Aleksandr Medvedev believes.
Speaking in a conference on the development of oil and gas resources at Sakhalin this week, Mr. Medvedev said that planned LNG plants at Shtokman, in the Yamal Peninsula and in the Far East could make Russia a key player on the world LNG market.
He reiterated the company’s plans for a LNG plant in Yamal, the gas-rich area where Gazprom currently is developing the huge Bovanenkovo field, as well as in the area of Vladivostok in the Far East, newspaper Vedomosti reports with reference to Prime-Tass. From before, Gazprom together with its Shtokman partners, is preparing for the construction of a LNG plant in Murmansk Oblast as part of the Shtokman project.
The same high focus on LNG was highlighted by company leader Aleksey Miller in this week’s World Gas Congress in Buenos Aires. According to Mr. Miller, Russia plans to produce a total of 90 million tons of LNG by 2020, which might it account for up to 25 percent of the global LNG market, a company press release reads.
Russia today has one LNG plant in operation, at Sakhalin.
