Smoke grenades against Foreign Ministry office
Anti-globalists threw smoke grenades against the Russian Foreign Ministry’s office in St. Petersburg as a protest against Russia’s politics in the Arctic.
The anti-globalists came from Murmansk, Arkhangelsk, Petrozavodsk and St. Petersburg, news agency Interfax reports. The incident happened on Wednesday, the same day as the conference “the Arctic – Territory of Dialogue”, opened in Moscow.
According to a statement from the protesters, the action was a protest on Russia’s attempts to include Arctic the Russian Federation by making it “the ninth Federal District”. They also protested against the Foreign Ministry for refusing to issue visas to anti-globalists from other countries.
As BarentsObserver reported, anti-globalists are planning to arrange a world congress in Murmansk at the time of the second Arctic International Economic Forum.
