Soaring heating tariffs in Murmansk
People in Murmansk are paying more and more for heating of their houses. Municipal taxes in the region are amongst the highest in Russia.
Murmansk is the only region in Russia where houses are heated by fuel oil. In course of the last year the price of fuel oil has doubled Vesti.ru reports.
The expensive fuel is brought to Murmansk on train cisterns. With several middlemen involved, the price of one ton of fuel oil has risen from 6000 RUB to 10 500 RUB before the train has reached its destination.
Most houses in Murmansk lack heath meters, and tenants pay an average tariff for heating.
