StatoilHydro interested in Yamal

Gazprom-partner at Shtokman, Norway’s StatoilHydro, says it is looking at offshore fields outside the Yamal peninsula in Russian Arctic.

- We are looking for possibilities on the Arctic offshore shelf. And this includes Yamal, the firm’s head in Russia Bengt Lie Hansen told Reuters on the sidelines of the Energy Exchange conference in Moscow on Thursday.

Gazprom is currently the only operator at the Yamal peninsula. The company has said it is considering including other companies like ExxonMobil, ConocoPhillips Royal Dutch Shell into a coming liquid natural gas plant (LNG) at Yamal.

StatoilHydro has a 24 percent stake in the Shtokman Development Company, where the two other partners are Gazprom and Total. The Shtokman field in the Barents Sea is one of the world’s biggest known gas reserves.
