Successful testing of “Yury Dolgoruky”
Russia’s newest nuclear submarine, the “Yury Dolgoruky”, has undergone successful testing in Russian Arctic waters.
The vessel, which is the first of Russia’s fourth generation nuclear subs, in mid-June left the Sevmash yard in Severodvinsk and headed out to sea for testing operations, the shipyard informs in a press release.
In the operation, all technology was tested and the vessel submerged.
-We can with confidence say that the first testing was splendid, Sevmash leader of military production Andrey Dyachkov says. –Taken into account that we have not tested any new strategic subs over the last 18 years, the notes we have today are insignificant. They will all without doubt be corrected, he adds.
-The most important is that the vessel did splendid in the tests, the Sevmash representative underlines.
The “Yury Dolgoruky” will be the new flagship in the Russian submarine fleet. It is expected to be included in the Northern Fleet in the course of 2009.
