The first Yamal pipes arrived

Energy major Gazprom has received the first pipes for its huge gas pipeline project in the Yamal Peninsula. By year 2011, the Bovanenkovskoe-Ukhta pipeline will bring Yamal gas towards European markets.

According to Sever Press, the pipe manufacturer Vyksunskii Metallurgy Plant in early April delivered the first Yamal pipes to Gazprom. The delivery included six 6000 tons of big-diameter pipes to the projected Bovanenkovskoe-Ukhta pipeline.

The pipeline will run towards the west, part of it on the sea bottom under the Baydarat Bay.

The annual capacity of the 2451 km long pipeline will be 250 billion cubic meters of gas.

Gazprom has the Yamal Peninsula as top priority and is investing major sums in the area. By year 2011, the Bovanenkovskoe field is to enter production and an annual 115 billion cubic meters of gas will subsequently be pipelined towards consumers, most of them in the EU.

Several other major fields in the area will be developed boosting the total production at the resource-rich peninsula to 250 billion cubic meters
