The new senator of Arkhangelsk
The legislative assembly in Arkhangelsk Oblast has endorsed the candidacy of Nikolay Lvov as the region’s new representative in the upper house of the Russian parliament, the Federation Council. Mr. Lvov has background as powerful businessman and regional politician.
The 60-year old Nikolay Lvov has since 1989 headed the Solombala pulp plant. He also twice headed Vladimir Putin’s election campaign in the region and has served a period in the Arkhangelsk regional assembly. He replaces Aleksandr Tishchenko as the Arkhangelsk representative in the federal parliament assembly. Arkhangelsk Governor Ilya Mikhalchuk originally proposed former governor Nikolay Kiselyov to the post, but was then forced to withdraw the candidacy. The Federation Council reportedly refused to accept Kiselyov because of wide-spread speculations about his involvement in a serious corruption case
