Trade Union office for Russian fishermen in Kirkenes
Murmansk Regional Trade Union Council today opens its representative office in Kirkenes. The office will give legal assistance to Russian fishermen working or spending time ashore in the Norwegian town.
As BarentsObserver earlier has reported, an agreement on opening of the office was concluded between Murmansk Regional Trade Union Council and its Norwegian counterpart in December 2009.
The office, which opens on the initiative of the trade unions themselves, will give assistance to all Russian fishermen, both trade union members and non-members.
- It is important to us that the sailors understands the role of the trade unions and that we are able to protect their interests, leader of Murmansk Regional Trade Union Council Aleksandr Pervukhin told B-port.com.
A delegation from the trade unions in Murmansk will meet their Norwegian colleagues in Kirkenes today to discuss concrete plans for cooperation in 2009.
