United Russia expelled Novodvinsk mayor

The United Russia party in Novodvinsk, Arkhangelsk Oblast, has expelled city mayor Ivan Popov from the party following his conflicts with city officials and party colleagues.

The decision came after a two-hour discussion in the Novodvinsk party council. Mr. Popov has been incapable of compromising with opponents and communicate with the local city parliament, Rusnord.ru report. His service is reported to have been accompanied by a big number of conflicts. The decision will now have to be approved by the regional party headquarters in Arkhangelsk. Novodvinsk is an industrial heartland in Arkhangelsk Oblast. It hosts major part of the region’s powerful paper and pulp industry.
