United Russia inspects Murmansk
The United Russia party is sending a delegation to Murmansk Oblast to control the situation in the regional party branch. The inspection comes after the government-loyal party lost the city mayor’s elections in Apatity, the second biggest city in the region.
The United Russia party branch in Murmansk Oblast has long been troubled by internal disputes and division. That again came to the surface when the party lost the Apatity elections. There, the party failed to agree about a joint candidate and subsequently ran with two candidates, former regional party boss Valerii Gorin and Mikhail Yegorin.
Election winner was Mikhail Antropov from the Communist Party.
Now, the federal headquarters of United Russia is sending head of its control and revision commission, Mr. Vladimir Kolesnikov, to Murmansk to check the state of the regional party unit.
The visit is not the first of its kind. Also in August this year, control representatives of the party visited Murmansk.
The United Russia now fears that the party might lose also the upcoming March 2009 city mayor’s elections in Murmansk.
