“U.S. fighter jet not made for today”

Norway considers to buy 48 U.S. Joint Strike Fighter jets which are to patrol the Norwegian High North. A defence expert now says that the USA is unlikely to ever start producing the hi-tech aircraft.

Mr. Jon Bingen from the Norwegian Institute of Strategic Studies says to newspaper Aftenposten that the Joint Strike Fighter will be too expensive to produce and that the aircraft is developed for the challenges of the 1980s.

-The probability of Norway deciding to buy the aircraft is big, however it is unlikely to ever be produced, Mr. Bingen says.

Norway will announce its decision whether to buy the Joint Strike Fighter or the Swedish SAAB Jas Gripen on 19 December.
