Workers stole platinum ore at Murmansk plants

Several workers at Norilsk Nickel’s plants in Murmansk Oblast have been arrested on suspicion of theft of platinum ore. They might now face up to 15 years of jail.

Two criminal groups have lately been arrested, one in Monchegorsk and one in the Pechenga region. Both places are industrial centres for Norilsk Nickel’s regional subsidiary in Murmansk Oblast, the Kolskaya GMK. According to police representatives Vladimir Nogotkov a total of six men from Monchegorsk now face charges for the thefts. Two of the men reportedly stole the valuable metals, while the remaining four helped transport it to Sankt Petersburg, Regnum reports. Recently a group of 12 men from the Pechenganickel plant further east in the Kola Peninsula were sentenced to between five and fifteen years of jail for similar thefts.
