Yamal surplus gas turned into LNG

Russian oil major Rosneft has decided to build three compressor stations in the Yamal Peninsula for the transformation of surplus gas into LNG.

The measure will help the company significant cut emissions from burning of the gas from the Yamal oil production.

According to Rosneft head Sergey Bogdanchikov, the company has invested 600 million RUB (16,7 million EUR) in the first part of the project. –Our task is to cut the burning of surplus gas, he stressed during a recent meeting to the region.

The compressor stations will be built for the Komsomolskoe, Kharampurskoe and Tarasovskoe fields. By year 2011, 95 percent of the surplus gas will be transformed into LNG, Ngv.ru reports.

The LNG will be applied either by power stations, industry or pipelined back to the ground, Mr. Bogdanchikov says.
