Accounts Chamber indicates fraud in Murmansk

The federal financial watchdog the Accounts Chamber in a new report indicates that the former regional administration of Yury Yevdokimov mismanaged 1.5 billion RUB of federal money.

According to the Accounts Chamber, the Murmansk regional administration can not report for 1.5 billion RUB of 2008 budget money. An investigation of whether that is based on financial violations or government mismanagement has been initiated, newspaper Kommersant reports.

Accounts Chamber representative Sergey Ryabov says to Kommersant that the case will be handed over to the law-enforcement authorities should the violations and mismanagement be verified.

The inspection reportedly shows that 1.5 billion RUB of the region’s 37 billion RUB of revenues can not be reported for. About 13 billion RUB of the revenues were federal transfers. The 2008 budget had a 36.7 billion RUB spending frame.

Meanwhile, former governor Yevdokimov stresses that no violations whatsoever have taken place and that a 14-page paper of objections have been submitted to the chamber.

The Accounts Chamber in the course of the recent city mayor election campaign started a special inspection of the Murmansk administration on the request of the State Duma fraction of United Russia. That request came after Governor Yevdokimov openly criticized the party for running a dirty election campaign in the region.
