Court upholds dismissal of Murmansk City Mayor

The October Court in Murmansk has turned down a case from Sergey Subbotin, the disgraced city mayor who was dismissed by the City Council last month.

The court case, which started on 10 June, turned down Subbotin’s request to annul his dismissal by the Murmansk City Council, Regnum reports. Subbotin argued that the dismissal was based on false and insufficient evidence and therefore illegal.

That position was however not supported by the court. Subbotin has the right to appeal the verdict.

Meanwhile, the Murmansk City Council has decided to introduce a socalled city manager’s system, which is based on appointments of the council and not direct popular elections.
