Finland invites Prime Ministers to Saariselkä

Unofficial meeting for European Prime Ministers to be held at the remote northern ski-resort next spring.

Following the success of last year’s informal Foreign Ministers meeting in Saarisälke, Finland now want to bring together Prime Ministers from all over Europe to meet at the resort. Prime Minister Jyrki Katainen and Minister for European Affairs and Foreign Trade Alexander Stubb will be serving as hosts, reports Helsingin Sanomat.

Saarisälke is located just south of Ivalo not far from Finland’s border to Russia in the north.

In March 2010, Foreign Ministers from Sweden, Estonia, Italy, Spain, France, Turkey and EU’s Foreign Minister Catherine Ashton spent a weekend in Saarisälke.

A follow-up meeting for the European Foreign Ministers was supposed to take place in March this year, but was cancelled in last minute following the clashes in Libya and nuclear disaster at Japan’s Fukushima plant.
